Improv Now - Charlie Parker

IMPROV NOW A4.jpg

At the gallery this month is 'IMPROV NOW' a collection of oil paintings by local Whangarei artist and Radio DJ - Charlie Parker. Charlie's work incorporates a variety of motifs from jazz portraiture to colourful, dreamlike landscapes.

“At an early age I was hit by a car, resulting in a severe brain injury. As a result, amongst other things, I’ve had to learn to use my left hand.

My painting allows me to express myself, as my mind is often out of order and I am frequently at a loss for words. Inspiration for my work can come from within, from the spirit and life all around us. Music plays a great influence on my life and helps me find the essence of my painting.

One thing I hope that my painting will do is to inspire emotion in the untrained eye and a wonder of what could be...” - Charlie

Come join us for the opening on the 25th January as we celebrate this unique body of work
